Social Action

Gemilut hasidim – acts of loving kindness
The goal of the GRJC Social Action Committee is to provide opportunities for "gemilut hasidim," or acts of loving kindness. This mission has led us to create an energetic program that reaches out to communities in need, locally and globally. We encourage our congregants to get involved and participate in helping those in need around the Glen Rock community, as well as in the greater Bergen and Passaic County areas.

We are involved with the following programs:
• Religious Communities of Glen Rock, the Community Relations Advisory Board, and the Martin Luther King Committee of Ridgewood/Glen Rock
• The High Holidays Food Drive (Project Isaiah)
• Food collections for local pantries
• Blood drives
• United Jewish Appeal of Northern New Jersey on Supplies for Success, a program that provides supplies and stuffs backpacks for needy school children
• The Glen Rock Poverty Awareness Program
• Local homeless shelters
• Welcoming the Stranger:  GRJC's Efforts to Support Refugees
The GRJC is proud to be a Welcome Campaign Congregation through HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society).  As part of this partnership, we seek to find ways of fulfilling the mitzvah of "welcoming the stranger" by supporting refugees and asylum seekers in pursuit of a dream for a better life.
