Shabbat Evening Services, Fridays at 8:00 pm Our services at the Glen Rock Jewish Center are a celebration of God, spirit, and community. They are a mixture of song and silence, discussion and reflection, as well as education and growth in the art and practice of Jewish prayer. We use the Siddur Sim Shalom and announce both the Hebrew and English page numbers, and provide complete transliterations of the service so that individuals unfamiliar with Hebrew can comfortably participate. All our prayers can be accessed via our website as MP3 files so that all our community members and visitors can become familiar with the tunes we use for the prayers. Services ScheduleWe hold services every Shabbat evening at 8 pm and Shabbat morning at 9 am. We hold the full range of holiday services from Rosh Hashanah through Tisha Be'Av every year. Our Shabbat evening service is always followed by an oneg with cakes and cookies. Our Shabbat morning service is always followed by a kiddush/oneg. Children's ServicesTot Shabbat is our monthly pre-kindergarten/kindergarten program including a short Shabbat experience with songs and prayers for parents and children. A Shabbat-friendly art project follows. The program ends with challah, juice and cookies for all. Shabbat Sheli, for first- through third-graders, runs parallel to Tot Shabbat and teaches our students to chant some of the basic prayers of Shabbat services. They join with the others for a snack at the end. Junior Congregation, for fourth- through sixth-graders, continues to build skills and leadership for our young people in leading prayers and other synagogue roles. |
