Adult EducationThe Adult Education program offers Glen Rock Jewish Center members a wide array of opportunities for intellectual and spiritual growth, and for the advancement of lifelong learning. Rabbi's ClassesRabbi Tow teaches a number of adult education classes throughout the year, including haftarah chanting, b'nai mitzvah preparation, pre-high holiday classes and basic Hebrew literacy, to help those who are interested participate more fully in services. Rosh Chodesh GroupOur Rosh Chodesh Group usually meets on the first Sunday closest to the beginning of the Hebrew month to discuss relevant topics relating to women's place in our history, our traditions and the Bible. Join us for lively conversation and intellectual discussion in a friendly atmosphere. No Hebrew or prior participation is necessary, and non-members are welcome. Scholar-in-ResidenceEvery year, the Glen Rock Jewish Center's scholar-in-residence program brings an expert in his/her field for a Shabbat of lectures and discussions. Previous lecturers have covered topics as diverse as Jewish thought, archeology and religion, politics in Israel, and women's studies. Book ClubJointly sponsored by Adult Education and the Center Library, the Book Club meets three to four times a year to discuss various works of fiction and non-fiction, as relating to Jewish practice, thought and ethics. Books discussed over the past two years include Bee Season, Friday the Rabbi Slept Late, The Zookeeper's Wife, Messages From My Father, The Plot Against America and Kabbalah: A Very Short Introduction. The GRJC's Adult Education program also ties into the Bergen County Jewish Learning Project, the Glen Rock Community School's religion courses, and joint programs with neighboring congregations and Jewish community groups. Glen Rock Jewish Center has worked closely with the local Lutheran Church to provide a series of Interfaith lectures, which are well-attended and help present a wide range of viewpoints in an inclusive and accepting atmosphere.
