Cantor William Walton![]() Cantor William Walton will lead the congregation of Glen Rock Jewish Center during the upcoming High Holiday services this Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, as well as for many other holidays and special events throughout the year. "It is a great joy to share the spirit of music through song and prayer," said Cantor Walton. Cantor Walton was most recently Cantor at Temple Israel of Union, NJ. He received both Masters and Bachelors degrees in music from Boston University’s School for the Arts. He studied with Cantor Gregor Shelkan of Congregation Mishkan Tefila in Chestnut Hill, MA, who was a past president of the Cantor’s Assembly, and he wrote and performed a segment on Chanukah for public television. Cantor Walton toured Israel and Europe as soloist with Zamrei Cameran, performed with the Israel Sinfonietta Orchestra, and on Kol Yisrael, the national radio of Israel. Cantor Walton has a wide musical repertoire, appearing in opera, oratorio and recital. He has sung with the Opera Company of Boston, the Amato Opera, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has sung the title role of Judas Maccabaeus by Handel and was featured on "The Listening Room" on WQXR radio. He has worked under such eminent conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa and Sir Colin Davis. As a Hirschhorn speaker, his lecture series, "Inside the Music," covers topics ranging from opera, operetta, and Gilbert and Sullivan, to classical music from early music to the present day. He has lectured and presented programs at a number of JCC-Senior Centers throughout the area. He has served as Cantor, lecturer and performer at NJY Camps - Kislak Adult Center and Berkshire Hills Emanuel – Adult Vacation Center. This past year, he released his first CD entitled, "A Song Goes ‘Round the World," a journey in song sung in six languages. |
