GRJC Supports Campaign to Save Darfur
The Glen Rock Jewish Center is a member of a campaign to
raise Save Darfur banners on buildings of religious communities all over the
area.
The US Holocaust Memorial Museum Committee on Conscience
reports that over 1.5 million Sudanese civilians have been driven from their
homes in the Darfur region, their villages torched and their property stolen by
military and allied militia. Hundreds of thousands have have died there
since Spring 2003. We will not be silent today while the people of Darfur
need our help.
The banner refers those who see it to the website of the Save
Darfur Coalition (SaveDarfur.org),
and alliance of over 100 faith-based, humanitarian and human rights
organizations, including the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. The
coalition's website lists specific actions you can take to help save Darfur.
As congregations and members of concerned religious
communities, our collective voice is stronger than we could ever be as
individuals. Our goal is to have a common banner prominently displayed on
houses of worship throughout the area, visible to commuters, congregants, and
passers-by. Other organizations (e.g. schools and community centers) are
also welcome to join our campaign..
If you would like to help recruit more congregations for the
campaign, please contact the Save Darfur Banner Campaign at bannerinfo@savedarfurbanner.net.
