Shabbat Shalom GRJCWeekly Emails to the CongregationParshat Tzav Shabbat haGadol 2007 Shabbat Shalom to the GRJC family, This evening we light candles at 7:01 PM. Tot Shabbat and Shabbat Sheli services begin at 6:30 PM. The evening service will begin at 8 PM, and Saturday morning services will begin at 9 AM. This Shabbat we celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Amir Nevo. We wish an early Mazel Tov to the Nevo family. This weekend is Shabbat ha’Gadol, the Shabbat that precedes Passover. We read a special Haftorah from the book of Malachi. Toward the end of the Haftorah, Malachi tells a prophecy that Elijah the Prophet will come to tell us the day when the Messiah will be coming, “a great and mighty day”/”Yom Ado-nai ha’gadol ve’hanora”. Notice the word “gadol”, meaning great, in this verse. The Shabbat takes its name from this Haftorah that speaks about redemption, redemption that will happen in the future. This Haftorah helps us also to connect to a redemption that happened in the past, the Exodus from Egypt. The Fast of the First-Born program will take place this Monday morning, 7 AM, April 2, at Temple Israel in Ridgewood. First-Borns are invited to join us for this special program that allows eating with the celebration of a siyum, the completion and presentation of a portion of Jewish study. Congratulations/Yasher Ko’ach: -To Perry Silverman and Sam Leibman, members of the Glen Rock High School Future Business Leaders of America chapter that won the Rookie Chapter of the Year award. -To Benjamin Barenboim, for being named to the President’s List at Bentley College Announcements:
I want to wish everyone a very happy and healthy Shabbat and Passover holiday. I hope that everyone will have a meaningful holiday of reflection, and that the Seders will be a chance for fellowship and inspiration. Le’shanah ha’ba’ah bi’Yerushalayim/Next year in Jerusalem,
Rabbi Tow
